When you send a parcel abroad from Pakistan, you will usually hear three names: DHL, FedEx and UPS. All three are global express networks with their own aircraft, hubs and customs teams. All three are reliable. But they are not the same, and the best choice for a 0.5 kg document to Dubai is often different from the best choice for a 25 kg box to Toronto. As a booking agent we work with several carriers every day, so here is our practical view.
How express couriers really differ
For most customers the differences come down to four things: price for your weight and destination, transit time, how customs is handled at the destination, and how the receiver experiences delivery. Brand reputation matters less than you might think. The same carrier can be the cheapest for the UK and the most expensive for Australia, because every company has its own zones and its own strong routes.
DHL Express
DHL has the largest international express network in Pakistan and is often the first choice for documents and small parcels. Its strengths are:
- Very wide coverage, including smaller countries in Africa and Central Asia
- Strong performance to the Gulf, the UK and Europe
- Good tracking and clear customs communication with receivers
DHL is not always the cheapest for heavier parcels, but for urgent documents and small personal parcels it is hard to beat.
FedEx
FedEx is especially strong to North America because the United States is its home market. Customers often choose FedEx for:
- Parcels to the USA and Canada
- Medium and heavy shipments, where its rates can be competitive
- Business shipments that need a reliable delivery appointment
FedEx also offers special packaging such as the FedEx Pak, which can be good value for small, flat shipments.
UPS
UPS is well known for business-to-business shipping and heavier parcels. It is a good option for:
- Commercial shipments and samples to Europe and North America
- Heavier boxes where the per-kilo rate becomes important
- Customers who need economy options that are slower but cheaper
Which is cheapest?
There is no single answer, because each carrier divides the world into its own zones. A destination in zone 3 for one carrier may be zone 5 for another. Weight bands also differ: one carrier may be cheaper up to 2 kg and another may be cheaper from 10 kg. The only reliable way to compare is to check the actual price for your weight and destination. Our rate calculator shows the services we offer side by side, so you can choose by price and transit time.
Which is fastest?
For major destinations such as London, Dubai, New York and Toronto, the express services of all three carriers are similar: usually two to six working days after pickup. Differences appear on smaller routes and during customs clearance. A parcel with a clear invoice on a slightly slower service often arrives before a badly documented parcel on the fastest one.
Things that matter more than the brand
- Chargeable weight: a well-packed box can save more money than switching carriers. Read our guide on volumetric weight.
- Correct documents: an accurate invoice and the sender's CNIC prevent most delays.
- The receiver's phone number: every carrier needs it to arrange customs payment and delivery.
- Restrictions: each carrier has its own list of items it will not carry.
Our recommendation
- Documents and small parcels to the Gulf, UK and Europe: DHL is usually the safe choice.
- Parcels to the USA and Canada: compare FedEx and DHL; FedEx is often very competitive.
- Heavier commercial shipments: compare all three and consider economy services.
- Very large shipments: air cargo or sea freight may be far cheaper than express courier.
